Overview

Dr. Patrick Drew McDaniel.

I am the William L. Weiss Professor of Information and Communications Technology in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Pennsylvania State University and a fellow of both IEEE and ACM. I am also the Director of the Institute for Networking and Security Research (INSR), a research institute focused on the study of networking and security in diverse computing environments.

I am also the director of The Center for Trustworthy Machine Learning (CTML), which is an Frontier project in Secure & Trustworthy Computing, and it is supported by the National Science Foundation. The consortium consists of faculty from Penn State (Lead), Stanford, The University of California, Berkeley, The University of California, San Diego, The University of Virginia, and The University of Wisconsin-Madison. The focus of the Center is to develop a rigorous understanding of the vulnerabilities inherent to machine learning, and to develop the tools, metrics, and methods to mitigate them.ps

My professional life is devoted to the pursuit of novel research in a broad array of areas of computer science (see below). As part of that pursuit I am fortunate to advise a number of exceptionally talented and committed graduate students and post-docs, as well as participate in many rewarding professional service activities. This website documents many of these activities, but is not even close to exhaustive. If there is a something you wish to know or want more detail on information that is here, feel free to contact me directly.

The pages linked from the menu at the left cover broadly my research, teaching, and personal activities. Those wishing to speak to me in a professional capacity should contact me via email. Email is probably the most reliable way of contacting me (warning, responses may take a couple of days due to travel and other factors).
